The DogStays Sitter Shield

Sitter Shield.png

'The DogStays Sitter Shield' protects Dog Sitters registered with DogStays against third party claims made against them during or related to a DogStays Booking (if and when they are found responsible/liable).

While this protection is mainly for dog sitters in our network, in some situations the third part claims protection may also extend to other individuals living in the dog sitter's home, if they are not insured or not sufficiently insured independently.

WHAT is included?

  1. This is valid for all booking days/nights between 1st October to 31st December 2023. This means if a booking starts on 28th September and ends on 6th October, the days/nights from 1st to 6th October will be covered. Similarly, if a booking starts on 25th December and ends on 6th January, the days/nights till 31st December 2023 will be covered.

  2. This is valid only for bookings confirmed and accepted through DogStays, only covers dog(s) included in the booking and is only valid for the duration of the confirmed booking.

  3. It will also cover legal defense costs, so dog sitters will have the opportunity to defend a claim against them, and if they are found liable, our insurance provider will compensate the party making the claim for the damages they have suffered.

Specifically, if a dog sitter is found responsible/liable, he/she is protected in case he/she  or the dog being cared for cause:

  • Third party property damage

  • Third party bodily injury

  • Third party financial loss that is the direct consequence of a covered property damage or bodily injury caused by the dog sitter or dog being cared for

To help you understand, here are some example of situations which would be covered by the DogStays Sitter Shield (IF the dog sitter is found responsible):

  • A dog being looked after escapes and bites a child

  • A dog being looked after bites another dog while out on a walk with the dog sitter

  • A dog being cared for is bitten by another dog

  • The dog being cared for gets away from the dog sitter and causes a car accident

  • The dog sitter accidentally step on the dog being cared for and the dog is injured

It is also important to understand what types of situations are NOT* covered by the DogStays Sitter Shield:

  1.  Damage to a dog sitter or the dog sitter's own property or injury to the dog sitter's own dog cannot be protected under this insurance since this is third party insurance

  2. Any ‘intentional’ acts committed by a dog sitter will not be covered by the insurance

  3. Liability insurance always includes a list of exclusions and conditions. You can view the detailed list of these here

*please note that these are just some examples of situations which are not covered and it is not an exhaustve list of exclusions.

Deductibles

Like in any insurance, this is the amount that dog sitters are responsible for paying even when insurance will cover the claim.

Please note: Our insurance provider will intervene from the first euro for any bodily injury, but will apply a deductible of EUR 375 on any material or financial damage a dog sitter is found responsible for. In case the dog sitter causes damage to the dog being cared for, a deductible of €150 would apply. This means the dog sitter would need to pay the first 150 euros for the treatment/care/compensation and our insurance provider would pay the rest. Please look at our deductibles table here for details on each type of coverage and the deductible which would be applicable.

Answers to some common questions by dog sitters:

Question: What should I do in a situation where someone claims damages against me?

In case of any legal claim/action against you related to a DogStays booking, please inform us at DogStays immediately and we will get the right team involved.

Question: Do I need to pay for this insurance?

At this time, from 1st October - 31st December 2023, we are offering this insurance to you absolutely free.

Question: When does the insurance cover start?

The cover for a booking is valid during the entire booking (from start date+time to end date+time).

Question: Why is my own home and dog not covered by this insurance?

In Luxembourg, third party liability insurance cannot protect the insurer's own property from damage and hence in this case your own home cannot be protected by this cover.

In case you have other questions, please write to us at dogstays@gmaill.com or contact@dogstays.lu and we will be happy to help.

Please note: DogStays reserves the right to modify any terms of this insurance or withdraw it at its discretion.
